During menopause, a woman’s hormone levels decrease, which can lead to various symptoms. Vaginal dryness is one of them. The symptoms are often local: sex may feel uncomfortable or even painful. There may be burning during urination or increased urinary frequency—even without a urinary tract infection. Some women simply experience a persistent feeling of discomfort in the intimate area.

These symptoms typically appear 2–5 years after hormone levels begin to decline. Not all women experience symptoms. If the mucosa is thin but there are no symptoms, treatment is not needed.

However, symptoms can be effectively treated, for example with local estrogen therapy. If someone does not wish to use hormones or if hormones are not suitable, PRP treatment is an option. PRP can relieve symptoms, and studies support its effectiveness.
